《活著》Vivre 是音樂劇《巴黎聖母院》Notre-Dame de Paris 最著名的曲目之一。這齣戲在正式公演前先發行錄音室版本的概念專輯，一推出即巿場反應熱烈，而專輯裡的女主角 Esmeralda 為以色列歌手 Noa（Achinoam Nini），當年上了許多電視節目推廣此劇，令人印象深刻。然正式公演時女主角卻不是她，主要是 Noa 覺得自己法語不夠純熟且也受不了需長期綁定劇團演出的生活，最後婉拒演出，於是正式上演時的女主角變成 Hélène Ségara。Noa 的歌聲有種特別的力量，加上她聲帶振動與共鳴的方式，形成一種獨立魅力。聽過她演唱的版本，就會覺得其他版本好像都不夠「正確」，沒有歌曲該有的那種味道。
Esmeralda 唱這首歌，正是在悲劇即將發生之前。這是她接受皇家護衛隊隊長 Phoebus 邀約赴會的夜晚，她對 Phoebus 抱持滿滿愛意與憧憬。而她不知道，自己心愛的人並不會來救她。他們見面後，偷偷跟蹤的神父 Frollo 因嫉妒而刺傷 Phoebus，Esmeralda 卻被當成兇手逮捕，悲劇正式展開。這首歌取名《活著》Vivre 並以其為重點，因為這是 Esmeralda 第一次覺得生活有意義，想要好好活下去，是愛情讓她對人生充滿希望。
